Quick renders I did of my 3D model as i was wrapping it up:

When we fist started our 3D Literacy class, i had only dabbled with Maya before, had just dipped my toes, if that makes sense. On our very first day we started making simple things, right away, bookcase, book, barrel. I was way more proud of myself than i feel i had any right to be, I feel like, but I was very happy with where things were going. Then time approached after a few weeks to create our first final finished 3D object, and we were given a choice of 8 objects, none of which spoke to me. Deciding to go my own way, but keeping with the theme, I asked my tutor if I would be allowed. When the answer was "Maybe" I took that as a yes, and spent 2 full evenings working on this over a weekend. My tutor also showed me how to add plains into Maya so i could follow long a visual guide right in the software to make sure i get the proportions right. I spent a while texturing the model, and as much as i tried, I could not straighten some of the textures out, but since it is a simpler rendition of this horseless carriage, I thought it would be fine if it was a little wonky, give it a little character. Then came the final renders after adding some more detail, and I added a very simple plain with a cobblestone texture to make it appear more natural, more familiar, rather than a gray, sterile, cold plain. Here's some final renders:

Looking back at the project, I definitely feel like i could have rounded off some of the edges, like on the fenders, the headlights, definitely the seats. Could have also made the seat frames fit more smoothly with the car frame itself, and definitely if I could have figured it out, I would have straightened out the texture on the back side of the roof. I am also glad i ended up putting a spare wheel on the back, even though it was not necessarily a standard feature of the actual real life car. And also because I wasn't sure of how copyrights and trademarks and all that work when creating 3D model for study purposes, I ended up putting a Ford emblem on the front of the vehicle with a question mark: "Ford?" Which I think fits in well with my first project, as I am confident what I have created, I am just still questioning a bit if i entirely understand the software and technology. I am still learning, and I cannot wait to work on similar projects in the future.
