In semester 2, we started our 3D literacy class. We started out by learning the very basics of Maya, the 3D software we are using.

The first thing we modeled was a bookcase and some books. A fairly simple ordeal, and this made me realize what is possible in this software and I knew that we are finally doing the thing. The thing i signed up for!

Our first homework was to create a vase and a barrel. The barrel I sort of figured out, but the vase was an enigma to me, until our tutor showed us how it was done, and then showed me afterwards that my attempts could be salvaged too by extruding the top of the vase inward.

Our second homework was to follow one of the tutorials on Trello, as well as a table from the reference provided on the homework sheet. The table i could not figure out and in a fit of rage I didn't even save the file. The tutorial I chose was the cart. It turned out to be much more complicated than i first thought, but the person teaching the video tutorial explained everything slowly, and well, so I was able to get at least halfway there before making it into something I felt was right myself.

After the first couple weeks I felt very inspired and already overconfident and decided it would be a good idea to defy the list of objects for our first assignment....
